Health care trends are changing to meet a rapidly changing environment.  One area that has had the greatest impact is the role of local pharmacists.  The development of its role in the health system has changed considerably in the last half century.

Only 50 years ago, he must have gone to his pharmacy, taken his medicine, and left.  There is no interaction with the person filling the recipe.  There were no queries to explain how to take the pills or possible side effects.  He also has not discussed possible drug interactions with you.  For all that information, you should consult your doctor.

Today, pharmacists are playing an important role in healthcare.  Not only can they discuss important prescription-related information with their clients, but they can also help these patients detect OTC(over-the-counter) medications that will not interact with the medication they simply prescribe.  They were done.  Gallup's survey shows that about 81% of adults prefer to treat their illnesses with over-the-counter medications and use their local pharmacist to find the right people.

Pharmacies are not only helping people find drugs, but more of them are offering basic vaccines.  Between 2007 and 2011, the number of pharmacists trained to distribute vaccines increased from 40,000 to 150,000.  This number continues to increase as more people avoid waiting for a doctor's appointment and simply go to their neighborhood pharmacy.

The influx of people with access to health care is also increasing the role of pharmacists in the community due to the Affordable Care Act.  People are asking their local stores for help as they determine which plan is the right one.  Many pharmaceutical outlets have employees who can help answer these questions, often a gateway to other health-related conversations.  Pharmacists are trusted health care providers who are more accessible than their doctors.

Pharmacists are building relationships with their patients.  By doing this and creating a positive environment, patients are more likely to follow the prescription regimen.  In fact, there are stories of some clients who refuse to take drugs if a person does not have a special duty.  They know how this person will treat them and are uncomfortable talking to another person about their medications.

Pharmacists are becoming a place where you can find a trusted medical advisor without waiting for an appointment or a callback.  In some areas, pharmacists also offer screening and wellness programs to help you get the best health in your life.  Large retail chains have also opened walk-in clinics, so you can get all of your basic healthcare services under one roof.

The role of pharmacists has grown in the past 50 years.  With the healthcare landscape constantly changing, the role of these important healthcare professionals may continue to grow.
